The environment

The environment

Overall we had 446 items brought in for repair over 14 events. We successfully repaired 234 of these, with advice given on many others. Included in these fixed items were 14 toasters,13 bicycles, 16 vacuum cleaners, 8 laptops, 7 pairs of jeans and much more!

The local economy

The local economy

Chester Repair Cafe has helped local businesses and individuals by repairing equipment essential to their work. We've paid to hire a local venue and brought custom to their own cafe and others in the vicinity. When repairs were not possible on site due to more time being needed or specific equipment for example, we have directed people to local businesses. Surplus funds generated through donations to the Repair Cafe will be reinvested into the running of future events, providing resources for repairers to use and also to potentially fund courses for volunteers so they can learn new skills.

Volunteering, jobs & education

Volunteering, jobs & education

We've provided volunteering opportunities for around 30 people each month, though we have many more who have registered their interest. We hope that volunteers have found their experience with us rewarding, and we have also supported people in transitioning into paid work where we can.

Activity, health and leisure

Activity, health and leisure

The Repair Cafe tackles loneliness, supports wellbeing and allows people to feel valued in the community. It has become a place for communities to come together and help one another whether that’s restoring a 60 year old teddy bear with sentimental value, repairing an outfit which means someone can wear it to their job interview, or repairing a vacuum cleaner meaning someone doesn’t have to spend hundreds of pounds on a new one. The Repair Cafe is also space where people feel welcome to come for a chat, see what's going on locally and have a free cup of tea and cake.
