We'd like to make disability and safety adaptions at our centre including an accessible toilet, stair lift, ramp access for wheelchair users, new secure fence, gates and path for access to our garden.
We are still awaiting formal confirmation that our project does not require planning permission. This has been confirmed to us verbally, but in the unlikely event that planning permission is required, this campaign will be stopped and all pledges will be refunded. Shepway Spectrum Arts brings together the profoundly disabled alongside able and gifted individuals providing specialised therapeutic music, movement and art sessions in a safe and inspiring environment where social or intensive interaction can take place. We moved into our new home on 01/10/2020 and adapted the space to continue with our arts and music therapy, advocacy and support but we need to make some necessary adaptions to ensure we are accessible to all. This means carrying out a ground floor toilet conversion, installing a chair lift, ramps for wheelchair access, installing fences and gates and widen the path for ease of access to our garden.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
Shepway Spectrum Arts is an ambitious organisation, run by volunteers, dedicated to supporting the profoundly disabled. Our project will increase the number of adults we are able to support in a safe and secure place to gain life skills, improve communication, build confidence and self esteem and bring a sense of emotional well-being. Alongside an increase in numbers, we will also increase the types of services and reduce our reliance on grant funding. The project will open up the first floor of the building where we can offer social events, IT training for work and living skills, appointments for advocacy and support and a conference space for our sector. Ramps and a stair lift will enable wheelchair users and those with other mobility issues full access to all our services including a new disability bathroom with back sink and chair, shower and toilet.
