More about our impact
The environment
As part of our sustainability review, we established a community gardening project that has delivered clear wellbeing benefits alongside positive environmental impact. The garden has provided a calm, welcoming space where participants can spend time outdoors, engage in gentle, purposeful activity, and experience the mental health benefits of connecting with nature. For individuals experiencing social isolation, the project has created regular opportunities to connect with others in a relaxed, informal setting, helping to build relationships, confidence, and a sense of belonging. Working together to plant and care for bee-friendly plants has also fostered a sense of pride and shared ownership, giving participants a meaningful way to contribute to their community while supporting their own mental health and wellbeing.
The local economy
Our project has supported the local economy in several meaningful ways. Funding was spent locally wherever possible, including purchasing supplies and services from local businesses, helping to keep money circulating within the community. The project also created opportunities for local people to volunteer, develop skills, and build confidence, supporting pathways into employment, training, or further community involvement. By strengthening budgeting skills and financial resilience among participants, the project has helped individuals better manage their finances and engage more confidently with local services and businesses. In addition, our café-based activities increased footfall and social activity in the local area, contributing to a more vibrant and connected community.
Volunteering, jobs & education
Through our Sustainable Future project, we strengthened our volunteer programme by increasing training and creating more accessible volunteering opportunities. This supported both existing and new volunteers to build skills, confidence, and experience. We also delivered informal learning around budgeting and healthy eating, helping participants develop practical life skills that support greater stability and independence. By keeping volunteering flexible and inclusive, the project enabled people facing hardship to engage at their own pace, with volunteering acting as a positive stepping stone towards future education, training, or employment.
Activity, health and leisure
Our project promoted activity, health, and wellbeing by creating accessible opportunities for people to engage in positive, low-pressure activities. Initiatives such as the community gardening project encouraged gentle physical activity and time outdoors, supporting both physical and mental health. Healthy eating initiatives increased access to nutritious food and practical knowledge, helping participants make informed choices that support long-term wellbeing. By offering welcoming social spaces and group activities, the project also supported leisure and connection, reducing isolation and improving overall quality of life.
