HELP US CREATE A NEW PUBLIC ARTWORK FOR CAMBERWELL Thank you again for your fantastic contribution to the Camberwell Banners. We have some further exciting creative projects coming up in Camberwell, as part of our Camberwell Identity group work. First up, we're inviting you to join one of our Zoom workshops this week to discuss ideas for the new public artwork for Denmark Hill station - themed Art & Health - by internationally renowned artist Godfriend Donkor. Join Godfried Donkor for an online discussion about art, adrinkra and his new commission for the station on: Thursday 24th September 2020, via Zoom from 7.30pm or Friday 25th September 2020, via Zoom from 2pm Please email: [email protected] for the Zoom link. The work will be unveiled in April 2021 as part of the new second public entrance to the station. Godfried’s work has been exhibited at the ICA, Smithsonian, Tate Modern and Venice Biennale and in 2012 he was commissioned by Puma to create the kit for the Ghanaian national football side. His work for Denmark Hill station will mark the artist’s first permanent public commission. Selected through an open-call process, Godfried’s proposal offers a new take on the traditional adinkra symbolism of Ghana and the Ivory Coast. Like emojis, but created hundreds of years earlier, adinkras offer a short-hand – often humorous - representation of shared lessons, proverbs and philosophies. They have the potential to encapsulate collective values and reflect on the health of our communities in these unprecedented times. We hope you will join us to select which adinkra best reflect our local culture, including the long history of innovation in art and medicine. Together, we also hope to create a new adinkra for Camberwell. You can vote for your favourite adinkra via Camberwell Arts social media accounts: @CamberwellArts #CamberwellAdinkra Godfried’s work is being commissioned by the Camberwell Society and hosted by Network Rail. They are working with a wide range of local partners - including Camberwell Arts, Camberwell Identity Group, Govia Thameslink, Kings College Hospital, Maudsley and the SE5 Forum - to bring this new artwork to Camberwell. Many thanks for your interest, Camberwell Identity Group (Camberwell Arts, Camberwell Society and SE5 Forum)

The Camberwell Identity Group is excited to announce that Camberwell Banners - which we successfully crowdfunded - will be going up along Denmark Hill on 15 January. To celebrate, we would like to invite you to our launch event on the evening of 23 January. Please join us at 7pm at The Phoenix pub by Denmark Hill station for drinks and a short presentation on the Camberwell Banners imagery and how the brand design was developed. You can also meet us for a group walk beforehand at 6.30pm outside The Tiger pub in Camberwell. We will walk up Denmark Hill to The Phoenix to look at the wonderful banners representing our vibrant, diverse community. Local businesses, community groups and all those who contributed to the crowdfunding are invited along so we can celebrate together. We hope you can join us - for the walk at 6.30pm and/or a drink at The Phoenix at 7pm. SE5 Forum for Camberwell, Camberwell Arts and Camberwell Society would like to thank you for your amazing support for Camberwell Banners. We reached our target, with a matching pledge from the Mayor of London's Crowdfund London, and are now consulting on designs and working with our brand designer on realising the banners very soon. You'll notice that Spacehive is now collecting your pledge via Paypal or Go Cardless, whichever you chose to pay by. Any questions about this, please email: [email protected]. Thanks to our most generous donation by Bruce Alsen, who will receive the generously donated print of Camberwell Green by local artist Pauline Amphlett (here). And thanks also to our £100+ pledgers: Julian Kenny, Christopher Villota, Christopher Blackwell, Nick Mair, Ross Farmer, Richard Watkins, Selina Hamilton, John Eger, Rosemary Hill, Pauline Amphlett and Michelle French. Thanks also to actors Jenny Agutter and Lorraine Chase for backing our campaign. But a big thanks to every single pledger, too, whatever the size. As without you, we couldn't have done it.
