The idea

Camberwell Banners will install raised lamppost banners along Denmark Hill, to lead visitors down the high street to discover the wonderful cafes, shops, green spaces and galleries of Camberwell.

Camberwell Banners is part of a new Camberwell Identity project by SE5 Forum, Camberwell Society and Camberwell Arts with the local community and businesses. We want to reflect Camberwell's unique, vibrant identity and make everyone feel excited about the area.

The lamppost banners will create a stunning visual impact for Camberwell’s identity and boost the local economy by attracting new visitors and customers.

With your help, we can make the Camberwell Banners project happen. And every supporter gets a free download of our essential new Travel Guide to Camberwell 2019.

"Bringing people together to create a brighter high street, more business for local traders and a Camberwell for everyone to be proud of"

What we'll deliver

  • Banners promoting Camberwell on lamposts between Denmark Hill and Camberwell Green
  • Free download of Travel Guide to Camberwell 2019 for all supporters - published Sep 2019

Why it's a great idea

Camberwell Banners will give locals a brighter, more welcoming high street along Denmark Hill.

Visitors will be encouraged to explore more of our vibrant, diverse area.

Businesses will benefit from an increase in new customers.

We want to encourage the millions of people that come every year to Denmark Hill station to visit our world-famous hospitals to see more of Camberwell. Camberwell is an incredible place to live, work and visit but has recently been overshadowed by the stronger identities of neighbouring areas such as Brixton and Peckham.

Camberwell Banners is just one of many activities planned to promote Camberwell’s identity and create a local buzz in the area. We are now engaging with the community and businesses to produce an inspiring and authentic identity design, which will feature on the banners.

We will use your views of Camberwell from our recent public survey as well as feedback on designs in our public workshops during Camberwell Arts Week (15-23 June).

Steps to get it done

  • Public consultation on Identity and banner designs until June 2019
  • Final design agreed in July 2019
  • Banners featuring new Camberwell Identity installed in October 2019
