More about our impact
The environment
Securing long term ownership of the field ensures that the field will always be managed in an environmentally friendly way. We grow organically, we allow space for wildlife and encourage biodiversity. We have agroforestry space incorporating trees and shrubs into our growing area plus a forest garden and this year we are adding a wildlife pond.
The local economy
Cae Tan grows veg for direct supply to 130 local households creating a short supply chain and adding to local food security. We employ 5 part-time employees providing secure rural employment opportunities for growers.
Volunteering, jobs & education
We can now continue to provide our members and the wider community with on-farm volunteering opportunities on 2 days a week, regular community events and open days. We are also now working with more disadvantaged groups who are able to attend the field for volunteering activities. For all volunteers and groups being in the field with our friendly team delivers health and well being benefits for all.
Activity, health and leisure
The field is a thriving hub for our wide-ranging community of members, volunteers, directors, trainees, schools and families in deprived areas and other community groups who benefit from free food. It’s where we grow vegetables and host volunteers, open days, community events, shared meals, school and group visits. We have an outdoor kitchen and space for people to come share food and feel welcome. There is a community-led forest garden established and run by volunteers. The fields hosts a biodiverse ecosystem of birds, insects and mammals that we have encouraged over years of nature friendly practices.
