More about our impact
The environment
BCF celebrates canal heritage and introduces thousands of residents and visitors to Burnley's canalside. The towpath is a priceless free asset for all of us, and raising its profile through the festival promotes health and wellbeing through active travel and healthy lifestyle choices.
The local economy
BCF presents some of the best of Burnley, highlighting heritage that is often overlooked and helping build pride of place. Many attenders are local, but we also attract thousands of visitors to Burnley, raising the profile of the town and supporting local businesses.
Volunteering, jobs & education
BCF 2023 employed 58 artists, musicians and performers. 11 artists and craftspeople took part in the Makers' Market. 11 staff and 14 volunteers helped run the event. We will welcome back many of these valued contributors for BCF 2024!
Arts, culture & heritage
BCF is a brilliant showcase for all sorts of creative activity in a wide variety of artforms. Most of all, people love having a go! Our free workshop activities are designed for all the family to enjoy, and they introduce people of all ages to a wild variety of creative activity and making. They will be doing it again very soon at BCF 2024!
Activity, health and leisure
BCF introduced thousands of visitors to the joys of the towpath! Over 500 people messed around in boats. Over 600 took part in the Towpath Explorers Trail...
