Long Hanborough is a growing village, with an increasing demand for accessible, high-quality community sports facilities. Hanborough Cricket Club is growing alongside it, expanding senior participation and launching a new youth setup this year (All Stars Cricket).
Hanborough Cricket Club (HCC)
HCC made a remarkable recovery in recent years, emerging from the brink of closure during the Covid period, when HCC was reduced to just 7 or 8 active players and minimal equipment. Now fielding two flourishing senior sides, with players aged 18 to 70 regularly involved. HCC has seen much-needed investment in equipment, including new sightscreens and roll-on covers. The Club has become a popular local hub during the cricket season. Many residents watch the matches and enjoy the pavilion bar which generates valuable income for The Pavilion. The community is incredibly strong and have a passion to see cricket and other sports in Hanborough do well. There is a strong interest in establishing junior and ladies' cricket, but significant challenges remain. HCC currently lacks a permanent net facility, has a small playing wicket (6 pitches) and does not have an Astro-turf pitch. All of this makes it difficult to develop new teams. HCC has made some great progress in rebuilding The Club and improving its equipment. However, further investment will be essential to reach The Club’s full potential, particularly in developing junior and women’s cricket for the community.
Hanborough Cricket Club is on an upward trajectory. Participation is growing within the village, and a new junior development programme is starting in 2026. There is a clear appetite to provide safe, inclusive, and well-managed cricket facilities for the local community. The Club is planning long-term and aiming to expand its facilities and infrastructure to continue its success as a thriving community cricket club.
