Faster Broadband for Stoke Fleming

BT By BT

This is a campaign to bring faster broadband to USO-eligible addresses in Stoke-Fleming-SFL. If enough people pledge, BT will upgrade the network so eligible premises can get faster broadband.

Allington & Strete Delivery stage

£10,272
pledged of £25,474

Sorry this project was unsuccessful, we did not reach our fundraising goal.

BT has created this page, at the request of local residents, so you can crowdfund the sum necessary to bring faster broadband to USO-eligible addresses in your network cluster.

We’re doing this as part of the Universal Service Obligation (USO), a piece of government legislation that gives eligible UK addresses the right to request a ‘decent’ broadband connection – i.e. one capable of download speeds above 10Mbps and upload speeds of above 1Mbps.

BT’s contribution, defined by Government and Ofcom, is £3,400 per premises for 70% of eligible premises in the network build area. Therefore, for each eligible premises above 70% that calls us to register their interest, BT will contribute another £3,400, lowering the excess cost to pay. If you haven’t already registered your interest please call 0800 783 0223.

In your area, the upgrade cost is too high for us to meet alone. If your community can come together to pay the excess cost by pledging towards the target, the upgrade will go ahead.

What we'll deliver:

  • New fibre broadband network in your area
  • Faster internet speeds for you and your community

Why it's a great idea:

We all know how important it is for homes and businesses to have a decent internet connection. It can open doors to things that really matter to a community - education, employment, entertainment and contact with friends and family.

BT has partnered with Spacehive to make it easier for USO-eligible communities to share the cost of network upgrades. BT will cover the platform and transaction fees too, so 100% of your pledge will go towards the cost of the upgrade

If the target is met by the deadline, BT will upgrade the network allowing you to subscribe to a broadband package of your choosing. We’ll only collect payment if the target is reached.

Anyone can contribute towards target, but only premises in the network cluster itself will benefit directly from the network upgrade. You should have received a letter from us confirming your address is eligible – but if you’re unsure and want to check before you pledge, call us on 0800 783 0223.

Steps to get it done:

  • If the target is reached we'll collect the funds and begin planning the network upgrade.
  • We aim to complete the upgrade as quickly as possible – ideally within 12 months.
  • We'll let you know once your faster broadband connection is ready.
