Brockley Street Art Festival 2016

Now in it's second year, Brockley Street Art Festival has already created more than 30 bright and colourful works of art on unloved parts of Brockley and the surrounding areas.

Sorry this project was unsuccessful, we did not reach our fundraising goal.

The idea

This year's festival was entirely funded with online public donations, raising just under £2000. This money allowed us to create 15 large scale works of art, using the skills of predominantly local artists who all gave their time for free. The money raised was spent on paint, printing, council licenses and cherrypicker hire.

Following on from the week of artisitc activity in May/ June we have now been offered many more walls and spaces - from Brockley to Deptford and Lewisham and surrounding areas. However we would need extra funding to be able to take advantage of these opportunities.

As a result of the artworks created and publicity gained from this year, many of the Brockley Street Art collective have already been offered exhibitions and commissions.

What we'll deliver

  • Touch up any damaged or fading artworks from the last two years
  • Add colour to unloved areas, cover anti social graffiti.
  • Paint as many new murals locally in the next 12 months as possible

Why it's a great idea

Art in the streets has been proven to have a positive effect on the community. By bringing new people into the area it can help boost trade.
It lifts spirits, gives the people a sense of ownership and adds extra character and a sense of independence to the neighbourhood.
Adding art to shop fronts is also a cheap and effective way to spruce up tired and neglected areas.

Steps to get it done

  • Aim to tackle at least one mural per month over the next 12 months

As local artists we will be able to touch up any work damaged in the next year.
