Brilliant news, thanks everyone!
We will bring Carl Orff's Carmina Burana, perhaps the most popular of all modern choral pieces, live to Worthing, creating an intergenerational, professional, consummate and not-to-be-forgotten WOW!
Worthing Choral Society has been performing great choral music in Worthing for 18 years. One of the greatest of all pieces of modern choral is Carl Orff's "Carmina Burana". Now the Choir will perform Carmina in its full glory to a Worthing audience in the Assembly Hall on Saturday 21st March. The 90 singers of Worthing Choral Society will lead the project joined by the 40 stunning young voices of Sompting Village Primary School Choir, the 50 instrumentalists of the professional symphony orchestra - the Sinfonia of Arun and the professional soloists Alison Pearce - soprano, Arthur Bruce - baritone and Jake Barlow - counter-tenor. Conductors Aedan Kerney and Sam Barton will also direct the ever-popular Walton's "Crown Imperial" and Elgar's "Pomp and Circumstamce" March number one as well as bringing a second choral treat to Worthing: "Missa Festiva" by John Leavitt. This piece is taking young and old by storm in the States and Europe - now it's the turn for Worthing!
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
All relevant research shows that performing and listening to live music can have a profound impact upon intellectual activity and development , mental well-being and social cohesion. We want to continue bring that experience to people in Worthing. We want to give people the opportunity for fun! For the young singers of Sompting Village Primary School this will be an unforgettable opportunity to perform alongside adult singers and top professional musicians, involving them in a dynamic interactive experience away from mobile phones and the "reality" world. We want to bring excitement to people's lives! With the increasing costs for amateur music groups in hiring venues, music and professional musicians the future of live music is under threat. We believe passionately in the value of live music and want to share this passion with as many people as possible. As a charitable group committed to supporting the cultural life of Worthing this project shines as a beacon of light!
Steps to get it done:
We will Hire the Assembly Hall in Worthing and its servcices for one day on 21st March 2020 for our final rehearsal with the orchestra and the evening performance of Carmina Burana.
