The idea
Bridewell has 30 years of experience using gardening and nature to support people recovering from serious mental ill health in West Oxfordshire.
This is the first phase of a project to transform our workspaces in desperate need of refurbishment.
A new office will replace the old second-hand garage, providing a welcoming space for meetings with a key worker and for confidential calls. It is an essential project as the current garage space is deteriorating and doesn't provide a warm, safe space for meetings and confidential conversations.
The next stages of this project include adding a new polytunnel and open-sided barn for plant growing and all-season outdoor working and event space.
What we'll deliver
- Office and confidential meeting room
- A safe, welcoming and appropriate working space for the Bridewell community
Why it's a great idea
The new office will give everyone at the gardens a confidential meeting room, a warm and welcoming space that matches the supportive and safe environment of the walled garden.
People accessing the recovery service and health professionals will be able to meet with staff for assessments, inductions and regular support meetings in comfort even in the depths of winter.
Steps to get it done
- Dismantle old garden office
- Replace concrete base
- Build new insulated timber garden office
- Replace connecting walkway to adjoining building
Feedback from a recent service user:
"Bridewell is a tranquil space that was needed as part of my recovery. I am proud to say I was a gardener at Bridewell and talk about my mental health, growth and continued recovery, somehow, I don’t feel embarrassed about my breakdown. Thank you, Bridewell – keep growing."
