The idea
We are a small, family-orientated cricket club that is committed to creating opportunities for everybody to play and enjoy the game.
Building on our U15s team, this year we're expanding our juniors section to include an U10s softball side and launching a new Women & Girls section.
To support this, enable the local primary school to use our facility and to expand our junior and Women & Girls sections in future, we need to improve our facilities.
That’s why we need your help to raise £13,000 to install an artificial wicket and to contribute towards training equipment and improving our sightscreens and scoreboard.
The artificial wicket is particularly important and sadly, the size of our ground at Bretherton excludes us from access to the relevant ECB funding grants.
An artificial wicket is vital to allow more games and practice sessions (particularly softball) on our ground without reliance on grass wickets and the unpredictable British weather.
Thank you for reading.
What we'll deliver
- A more welcoming environment
- Greatly improved on field facilities
- Encourage health and wellbeing of young people
- Facilitate more junior cricket in the local area
- Facilitate Women & Girls Cricket in the local area
Why it's a great idea
The project will deliver a range of benefits:
- It will enable us to increase the amount of cricket that we can play on our ground, meaning we can expand our junior and Women & Girl sections
- It will ensure that our juniors, women & girl and senior teams can practice and play regularly. All training is currently held on one grass practice wicket during the Spring and Summer months and is regularly called off due to the weather.
- The headteacher of the local primary school would very much like to use our facility, and an artificial wicket would provide the means for pupils to play and enjoy the game regularly.
- More broadly, it will provide us with the means to increase the number of local people of all ages playing cricket at Bretherton, positively impacting their health and wellbeing.
From all of us at Bretherton Cricket Club, we’d hugely appreciate any contributions you could make to help us reach our target.
Steps to get it done
- Secure appropriate funding
- Schedule approved contractor
- Undertake the installation of the artificial wicket
- Use the facility to maximum potential
