By Poynton Sports Club ( Bowls)
Our aim is to replace very worn Indoor Short Bowls mats. These are used regularly by our Visually Impaired Bowlers section and by other elderly members of our Club who bowl socially and in 3 teams.
We would like to purchase two new Indoor Short Mats as our present mats are over twenty years old Both of the mats are losing their foam backing , the edges are unsafe and one has a cut in it. They are not very fit for purpose anymore. New mats would mean safe continuation of the activity for many years ahead for members of the Community. If extra money was raised we could purchase a new Carpet roller which would help our more able elderly members who volunteer weekly during the winter months to put the mats for the Visually Impaired Bowling Section and Social bowling . At present we have over 40 members participating in Indoor Bowls both socially and in three teams plus a Visually Impaired Bowling section of 15 -20 with helpers. Many members over 70 and some over 80. Without the regular bowling some of these members would be socially isolated especially during the winter months where the support to each other is invaluable. We hope that you will support our project
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
The project has many benefits to the community in Poynton and in particular to our Visually Impaired Bowlers At present equipment is very worn and to see the continuation of this activity for future years we need to replace it. Vic who runs the Visually Impaired Section told us that for some of his bowlers it is the only chance that they get to go out in the week with the social benefits and companionship invaluable. Replacing the mats would enable a number of elderly and visually impaired bowlers to continue their activity safely and improve their skills.Likewise with our listing on the NHS website we hope to reach out to more peoplewho can benefit like Vic and his friends. The benefits are huge as it keeps people active in both mind and body. Lots of problems have been shared during the last few years over the cups of tea and coffee at our Social bowls. None of this would be possible without the continuation of Indoor Bowling a nd the replacement of old equipment.
Steps to get it done:
The bowls club is in the centre of Poynton and is listed on the NHS Choices website to keep people active. It is registered as a Community Association Sports Club.
