The idea
Bluebell Wood (Cheshire) CIC was established with the goal of getting people outdoors, away from the desk/phone/games console/laptop/office, and back into the natural world around us.
We want to welcome the community to share the 16 acres of field and ancient forest where people can feel the benefit as much as the environment.
Providing regular Volunteer Sessions will ensure we can run classes and workshops about specific skills, eg. foraging, bushcraft, willow work, as well as develop the vegetable patches with a view to educate people in the possibilities of 'growing their own', and what to do with the produce (wild cooking for example).
What we'll deliver
- Involve volunteers in the process of restablishing and maintaining the ancient woodland
- Construct new raised borders and grow vegetables
- Improve pathways
Why it's a great idea
Bluebell Wood will benefit both people and environment.
Physical tasks, completed outside are well know for their health benefits, but especially for the improvement in mental health. We want the local community to be able to grow a sense of pride in the natural environment that they will take away from Bluebell Wood and benefit the town of Winsford and beyond.
Developing the vegetable patch will help people to learn that they can grow their own produce and also how to use/preserve it, meaning less reliance on the ever increasing prices in supermarkets, benefitting people who otherwise might cut out fresh fruit and vegetables first in times of financial difficulty.
We also want to be a place when people can just come and exist, find some peace and calm in a hectic and stressful world, where nothing is expected of them, except to just be. This might be through craft activites and workshops, yoga, or just a comfy log to sit on with a cup of tea in front of a campfire!
Steps to get it done
- Buying the tools and materials
- Builing the vegetables patches and planting
- Beginin to remove the invasive species
