We are a local community group that had formed with the purpose of saving the iconic red BT phone boxes that are remaining in Burgess Hill, West Sussex Our aim is to save these beautiful boxes for future generations while engendering community spirit and participation now.
our group has already partly renovated the old BT K6 phone box in Blackhouse Lane into a Seed Swap and general gardening hub for the local community. Already it has become a focal point for old and young alike in the community helping to combat the social isolation of elderly and lonely individuals and providing visible interest and excitement to children and adults alike
the local running club has inaugurated a new running activity, the phone box dash, where members run between the 4 renovated phone boxes every Friday evening and they have plans to initiate a relay race in the spring
This demonstrates not only the environmental and wellbeing benefits of our project, but the active and health benefits to the local community as well.
We have the full backing of the town council, the councillor of the West Sussex County Council as well as dozens of local community members and associated community groups.
We are going strong!
