The idea
We want to set Wainfleet St Mary apart from its nearest town and neighbouring villages (all of whom have a bespoke village sign) by providing a cast iron village sign at each end of the village. The village is currently not seen other than an extension of the larger Wainfleet All Saints. This sign will allow all the tourism businesses in the village to promote themselves more effectively - and be proud of the fact Wainfleet St Mary is a great destination with beautiful holiday cottages, fishing lakes, caravan and lodge parks ....and being very rural a great place for walking and bird watching. The sign we have designed with the aid of local people shows identifying landmarks - the Church, the river, and the Vulcan aircraft stationed here in the war years.
What we'll deliver
- 2 bespoke cast iron Village Signs showing the heritage of the Village
- 2 Mounting posts in Oak and fitting brackets with wildflower planting at the base
- 2steel scroll works to hang the signs
Why it's a great idea
This will put Wainfleet St Mary on the map, recognise the boundaries of the Village, maintain and potentially increase the visitor numbers to the tourism businesses within St Marys. It will give a specific identity to the village and its residents and give a pride in where they live as opposed to it being assumed it is part of Wainfleet All Saints. It will impact on the boundaries to the village being a real eye catcher and be an installation the local population will be proud of. It will make Wainfleet St Mary truly an independent village giving the community a pride and ownership of the village
Steps to get it done
- Design of the sign
- Placing the order for the sign
- Taking delivery and installation
- Promotion and advertising of the installation
We believe this project will create a greater awareness of the village and build greater sustainability for the tourism businesses by encouraging easier location and recognition of St Mary's. Currently there is no clear indication of the village boundaries. We have submitted a bid to the levelling up fund which has been favourably received but we need to provide some match funding to access this fund - so please support us. We have run several successful grant aided projects - the Village Show and the changing of a waste patch of ground to an Orchard dedicated to the late Queen to mention 2 of them.
