Bells Yard play area has been neglected and overgrown with weeds. We want to revitalise this hidden playground in the heart of Jesmond to make it a fun and safe space for children to play.
Sorry this project was unsuccessful, we did not reach our fundraising goal.
We want to engage with children in the local area to produce exciting pieces of artwork to make the area colourful and playful. We'll also cut back some of the overgrowing shrubs and add new ones to revamp the link with nature. Our goal is to engage with the children from the schools, nurseries and specialist schools in Jesmond. We want to create a series of displays that promote the vibrant nature of the area and build engaging, imaginative play themes for the children. As part of this work, we will also renew the link with nature. Sadly many of the shrubs are now overgrown and makes a large part of the area inaccessible. We will carefully rework the foliage to build on the ideas produced by the children and add in some new plants to improve the diversity. It is hoped that this will also encourage more local wildlife, which can be explored in a learning environment for parents and children.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
Jesmond is a vibrant place with a lot of children in the local area. This play area is situated next to the local school and is heavily used by the children throughout the year. Turning this place into a hidden gem allows local parents to spend time with their children here. Whilst this is already happening, the overgrown and neglected appearance often results in a disappointing visit to the area. As a result of this crowdfunding appeal, the play area will become more attractive for children to explore nature and play games based on the imagination themes developed from the workshops.
