About the Project Creator
The objective of Beach Access North East, is to enable access to the beaches of the North East by offering free loan of all terrain wheelchairs, walking frames and mobi mat, to enable equal access for people of all ages and physical limitations. We have facilities at Whitley Bay, Blyth, and Newbiggin and we have specialist equipment available for free loan at all these venues. We also provide a service to schools and hospices, delivering the equipment to the organisation for use on trips to the coast. Our organisation involves wheelchair users and able bodied people alike, working together. We hold events throughout the year including a record attempt, a wheelchair accessible Halloween event, and a Christmas event on the beaches at Tynemouth and Whitley Bay. We are raising the profile of wheelchair users across the region and raising awareness of the difficulties faced. Our volunteers are an amazing group of people including wheelchair users and people with other disabilities, coming together to support our cause. We have seen the use of our service and the act of volunteering, within our organisation, enhance and change peoples lives. We have attracted media attention and the use of our service is increasing rapidly.
