The idea
I have set up a social enterprise coffee roastery in 2021 (Cracked Bean Roastery, part of Cracked Pot Enterprises CIC). Cracked Bean Roastery exists to support local people who've experienced long-term unemployment by providing opportunities for volunteering, training, mentoring and employment in a work-based environment. The people we support may have experienced mental health problems, substance misuse, the criminal justice system, as well as lacking work experience or qualifications.
I would like to add Barista Skills to the training that Cracked Bean Roastery provides. This will require purchasing a commercial grade espresso machine and a Deli grinder for the coffee beans, and other relevant accessory equipment. This will give people invaluable skills for the hospitality trade, as well as learning the skills the roastery training already delivers (batch manufacturing, packaging and delivery, e-commerce, social media marketing, customer service).

- Provide a cafe area for community centre for future events
Why it's a great idea
By providing Barista Skills Training, this will broaden the skill base that people can experience, and they have a greater chance of discovering something that they enjoy and are good at for their future career choice. It also gives them a higher chance of gaining paid employment in the future, as espresso machines are in all varieties of hospitality venues now so barista training is a sought after skill set in the workplace. This training is provided by Cracked Bean Roastery, for people who have experienced long-term unemployment. It is well known that long-term unemployment causes mental health problems, and low self-esteem. The barista training will be delivered in a supportive and encouraging environment. Trainees can practice these skills at events that are organised in the centre, which will help build their confidence.

- Promotion of Training Course & Receiving Referrals
