The idea
An exciting project to expand and improve our recreation ground. Having consulted the village, we have identified a list of priorities aimed at attracting more people, particularly the young, to get involved in sport. We plan to build a new skate spark; create a new MUGA for football and netball; refurb and light two existing tennis courts and build a padel court. The latter should provide a sustainable source of income. We will also create new picnic area, a community orchard and a dog walking area. All this is funded
BUT we need to improve pedestrian access so people can walk from the village (difficult at the moment). We already have 106 money to finance everything else, but it cannot legally be used for this one item.
What we'll deliver
- Light the pedestrian acces to the Recreation Ground
Why it's a great idea
The current recreation ground is quite old and not big enough for the recent increase in population. This has led to people travelling to other villages. We would like to provide new facilities to address these issues. By including a padel court (with the option of a second one) we hope to create a sustainable source of income to maintain the facilities.
The grant will enable us to improve pedestrian access to the Ground, which is not safe at the moment, particularly at night.
Steps to get it done
- Lighting the footpath
We have had discussions with the Lawn Tennis Association to receive a loan to build the padel court. This should provide an income to pay off the loan within 2/3 years and afterwards provide a source of income to pay for the upkeep of the new facilities.
