Notting Hill Genesis (NHG) is a housing association established in 1963 with the clear social purpose of providing good quality, affordable housing to low income Londoners, supporting resilient communities in thriving neighbourhoods.
For the past seven years, we have been working with the London Borough of Southwark on the Aylesbury Estate Regeneration Project. The project aims to provide new, affordable homes to existing residents, while supporting a mixed community. We have a commitment to ensuring that residents directly benefit from the regeneration through apprenticeships and employment, youth support, capacity building support for community groups and investment in community assets.
While there are future assets planned as part of the 20+ year regeneration programme, NHG is committed to identifying disused and underused buildings that can be used to provide community benefit and test potential community initiatives with a view to moving them into the longer term facilities. This project is one of these ideas.
Working with Pembroke House, Burgess Sports, Creation Trust, Southwark Council and others, this project provides and opportunity to explore how community assets such as the Aylesbury Community Kitchen and Walworth Living Room can complement one another as part of a coordinated Neighbourhood Food Model.
