The local economy
Since the Christmas trail launched, 4387 members of the public visited Sunderland, and took part in the Christmas in the City trail. This brought added footfall into the city centre and attracted consumers to various different businesses. From our records, we can see that 105 members of the public redeemed a local offer. This evidences that the trail has brought consumers, who may not intend to go shopping or spend money, utilise the offers and redeem these in local businesses. This is a great mechanism to attract the public, and to keep consumers in the city centre where they can spend their money, which goes back into the local economy.

Arts, culture & heritage
The trail covered many key locations in the city centre, including but not limited to, Keel Square, Market Square and Mackie's Corner. This gave the public, especially those from the wider community who may not travel into Sunderland as often the opportunity to witness the changing landscape and new developments. This may also encourage them to travel back into Sunderland more regularly as new opportunities and leisure activities arise. The trail also allowed consumers to pass The Fire Station and Minster Park. The stockings brightened the windows of Harrison an Brown on Blandford Street, Master Deboniar at Mackie's Corner, the Bridges Shopping Centre which attracts a large footfall and Hills Art Centre which is located a stone throw away from Market Square. It was great to bring some festive decorations to 4 local businesses while also supporting charities.
Activity, health and leisure
As evidenced, the trail is currently 1.8 miles, which is equivalent to 4000 steps. The trail is a great way to encourage the community to be active and get in their daily exercise. Additionally, the trail covered many key locations in the city centre, including but not limited to, Keel Square, Market Square and Mackie's Corner. This gave the public the opportunity to witness the changing landscape and new developments including, the Metro Station, Holiday Inn Hotel, The Yard, City Hall and many more.
