London Road Babies and Toddlers is a friendly non-profit community group run by volunteer parents and carers. Our group was established in 1968! Our aim is to provide a supportive environment for adults to make friends and share experiences; a place for children to explore, play and socialise safely. The group has been running for over 50 years. Our group is on the edge of town and is uniquely positioned so parents of young children can meet and local communities can integrate. We are constantly praised for how friendly and relaxed the atmosphere is. Many parents have attended the group as children and grandparents bring grandchildren having brought their own children. We run our group on a small contribution from attendees and keep costs low to ensure inclusivity for all and also to allow parents to attend with multiple children. As a result our equipment is nearing the end of its life and funding for renewal is required to keep the group going.

What we'll deliver:

  • Role play zone - kitchen, laundry room, nursery, dressing up box
  • Travel zones - ride ons for more than one child
  • Baby zone - comfy mats for adults and babies to play on, multi sensory toys
  • Reading zone- Books on display and comfy rugs and cushions to curl up in
  • Weekly Craft activity
  • Puzzles and problem solving
  • Small world play - Farm, Car Garage and Cars, Dinosaur, Train track, Fairground

Why it's a great idea:

Early years development Toys and equipment that promote relationship building and communication Developing early social skills including shared attention, turn taking, negotiation Supportive community destination for local families and childminders

Steps to get it done:

  • Chatting with (grand)parents, childminders, carers and children about how they would like our play equipment improved
  • Planning as a committee what items would add value to the group
  • Purchasing the play equipment
  • Redesigning the hall layout to creative an inviting space
