More about our impact
The environment
Pre-event survey highlights A full breakdown of responses and a summary has been provided to CW&C, of which the highlights are as follows: • 52% of respondents indicated a desire for zero-traffic routes to allow them to use active travel to access Chester, however of 80% stated that a route that felt “safe and pleasant” and not necessarily car-free would be enough for them to consider active travel. It can be concluded from this that there may be some low-cost solutions for CW&C to consider to promote more active travel • To further illustrate the point above over 92% of respondents said they would consider active travel if it was made easier for them • Only 5% of respondents stated they had disability or mobility issues effecting their ability to use active travel. Future events need to continue to engage with this sector Post-event survey highlights A full breakdown of responses and a summary has been provided to CW&C, of which the highlights are as follows: • People travelled an average of 3.9 miles to the event • Only 20% used a private car – it should be noted that no one used a Ginger e-scooter, so this may present a promotional opportunity for future events • Over 80% of visitors rated the event as either “good” or “fabulous” for enjoyment • The most popular features were the bike show and the partner stands – this info should be shared with local businesses to encourage more partner stands for the next event • 23% of visitors said their journey in by active travel was “quicker than expected” • 35% of visitors said their journey in by active travel was “more enjoyable than expected” • Almost half of the visitors said that the event had changed their views on active travel “to a certain extent” and a further 12% stated it had “very much” changed their view. It is assumed that this was a positive impact on their views
The local economy
Only to a very limited extent at this first event but we hope that the Active Travel Festival 2023 will have set the basis for future similar events that will attract increased support
Volunteering, jobs & education
See notes on the initial section section, in which we suggest that at least 1200 volunteers hours were dedicated to help plan and execute the Festival.
