The idea
Many of Aspire’s young clients in West Oxfordshire disengage from education at a young age. This can impose serious barriers in finding work and navigating modern life, limiting their ability to find housing and work. Young clients need particular support with literacy and numeracy, both of which are essential for living independent lives and accessing meaningful opportunities.
Aspire will support young people with literacy and numeracy tuition. Tuition will help them reach GCSE level in literacy and numeracy, leading to greater independence and improved resilience. With these skills in place, clients are more likely to get onto apprenticeship schemes, find work, and sustain tenancies.
Aspire will deliver 36 1-1 sessions for 4 young people; 48 group sessions for 6 young people; and examinations for 40 young people. These sessions will help young people to develop confidence and skills, improving their long-term prospects. Tuition will add to the Hub's existing support programmes.

Why it's a great idea
Young clients will be empowered to change their lives for the better, taking vital steps towards increased well-being and a better future. Tuition removes barriers to inclusion and helps local young people live up to their potential. As they progress, demand for local support services may decrease, freeing up resources for others in need.
Employers will benefit as some participants become work-ready, or take steps towards becoming employable. This will bring economic benefits in West Oxfordshire, helping businesses to find high-quality young candidates with a drive to learn vocational skills.
As young people and employers benefit, the wider community will benefit from increase social cohesion. These tuition sessions will create a ripple effect of secondary benefits, complementing the Witney Hub's existing work.
Tuition offers young people the opportunities which they may have lacked earlier. As they access the support they deserve, the local economy and community also benefits.

Tuition is a pragmatic solution to a problem many of our young clients are facing. It removes a simple yet pervasive barrier to employment and progress. Above all, it helps young people resume an education which they unfairly had to put on hold.
Education, Training and Employment (ETE) services are a key aspect of Aspire's wider work. Aspire has a long track record of helping people improve their prospects and take steps towards their goals. We support hundreds of people into or towards work each year: this includes young people, people facing homelessness, refugees, and more. Our tuition proposal is an extension of a support model which we know has the power to change lives.
Our youth service has already demonstrated its success in the community. It supports around 50 people a year, with wellbeing courses, 1-1 support, ETE advice, and more.
