The idea
We plan to open a Community Cafe serving light lunches, tea, coffee and cakes. It will be run by a group of volunteers from the local community who have already been identified and are waiting to be trained. Three years ago a survey of the local community taken during our Open Day identified two things the community wanted us to provide. One was a Community Cinema (which has now been running for two years) and the other was thr provision of an affordable cafe in the Centre which is close to a large housing estate.
What we'll deliver
- Equipment to open the cafe
- Vital taining for staff
- Marketing for the cafe
Why it's a great idea
The cafe will provide a space for people to meet, close to a number of homes where there are people who are lonely, on low incomes and socially isolated. We feel this welcoming facility will rejuvenate a supportive community spirit which will enrich the lives of the local people.
Steps to get it done
- Finalise the fit out of the kitchen
- Puchase the equipment
- Design and deliver training for volunteers
The total project cost is £37,000. We have already rasied £28,400 made up of £18,000 in grants/donations and the rest from our reserves. We have used these funds to add a conservatory to the building to house the cafe and while we continue to fundraise for the equipment hiring the conservatory out to make further funds for investment in the cafe.
