Why it's a great idea
The project benefits will include:
Promoting the local cultural diversity of ethnic minorities in Mitcham, Pollards Hill by helping people to learn about other cultures, and respect how they live and function.
Attendees by using print, stitch, drawing, collage, techniques can explore West African design themes and include their own diverse, cultural heritage in the Art pieces they produce.
The 8 sessions ought to provide opportunities for social, cultural inclusion, which can help people feel like they belong and that their individuality is valued and expressed through their creativity.
Overall Integration across multicultural residents. Encouraging innovation among participants where misrepresented cultures may be more likely to let their voices be heard, in a safe place with shared narratives which may lead to new ideas and artistic solutions, as people from different backgrounds bring their own perspectives and ways of thinking, making to the sessions and the artifacts produced.
Steps to get it done
- Confirming dates and premises and access for the delivery of sessions.
- Purchase Equipment, obtaining resources needed for the project.
- Recruiting volunteer to support and assist to facilitate session.
- Marketing, promoting and signing up participants for sessions.
- Launching sessions, deliver, review and reflect.
- Prepare, organise, install, invigilate exhibition, network and evaluate project.
As a west African (of Ghanaian Decent) Diaspora resident of Mitcham, Pollards Hill, I wish to combine my quality Artistic skills having obtained a first-class honours degree in Art and Design combined with my twenty-five years of work-related experience in community educational settings leads me in good stead to facilitate the culturally diverse workshops.
The project will create an inclusive atmosphere of cross-cultural artistic cooperation which will be an excellent way to bond participators and locality teams across the area of Mitcham and Pollards Hills.
The focus will be to target less privileged ethnic minority groups engagement in Art with a given scope for individual outcome to include powerful means of communication as well as self-expression to be creative in their own context, be well and promote self-esteem and give empathy.
