The idea
The full cost of the van is £21k. We have raised 50% from other sources and are now crowdfunding for the final 50%. We need your help to make this happen, so please pledge what you can!
During the grass growing season the Apuldram Centre runs a thriving contract gardening service, adults with learning disabilities taking part in this activity will; mow lawns and undertake basic gardening tasks for the public in our local community, this is very much a team effort and opportunity to work off site from the Apuldram Day Centre.
Over the years we have gathered a strong customer base and can offer anything from a one-off tidy up or hedge cut to year-round maintenance. Almost everyone we support enjoys lawn mowing the most, which we carry out at extremely competitive prices.
Most of our customers like us to visit every fortnight, however we are also entrusted to maintain lawns for people who may be on holiday or away for long periods.
What we'll deliver
- A new transit van
- Community Gardening Services
- Work experience opportunities
Why it's a great idea
This service not only provides our gardening customers with good value, it also provides an essential opportunity for the people we support (adults with learning disabilities) to gain confidence and vital work skills, which may help them to go onto gain future employment. They will engage in activities that directly link to maintaining and sustaining independence and be more equipped and skilled to move onto volunteering or work opportunities.
A new van, and therefore the expansion of our service will enable new opportunities for the wider community to integrate with The Apuldram Centre and to demonstrate and celebrate ability rather than disability and disadvantage.
