By A.P.P.L.E.
To transform our current small, very well used and tired kitchen into a bigger, better and brand new shiny one - so we can create more meals and include more children in our project.
A.P.P.L.E have been at the ARTBLOCK for 20 years. We have cooked and eaten together from the very start. It has always been important- good home cooked food, fresh ingredients, hospitality and now ensuring everyone has enough to eat. Our tiny kitchen has served us well but we need more space and better equipment. A.P.P.L.E. are kicking off a big refurbishment project which will turn our storeroom into a beautiful new shiny kitchen. The first stage is clearing our store cupboard and putting up a new shed to house all our sports equipment. The second stage is to put in new windows and a door into the proposed kitchen area. The third stage is to refit the space out with the equipment the project will fund, and create the new kitchen with more space to cook, learn and create.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
A.P.P.L.E is a charity working with children and young people. We provide a wide variety of activities in out-of-school time including, Sport and Outdoor play, Art and Creative projects, Youth club, and more. We also provide our comprehensive food project. This addresses all aspects - food insecurity and school holiday meals, healthy eating for children and young people (reducing sugar, reducing meat, eating more veg), learning to cook (shopping./ time management/ budgeting) eating together and hospitality skills. All this in a tiny kitchen. It's time to make a big change . We will be able to provide more home cooked meals using fruit and vegetable from our gardens and food from our partner providers City Harvest. The benefits will be that more children and young people will be able to learn how to cook, a valuable life skill, and enjoy providing meals for their peers.
Steps to get it done:
A.P.P.L.E create a safe, creative place for children, young people to meet friends, to take part in activities that enhance their wellbeing, to develop life and work skills, and that provides comfort and support in times of difficulty. Our overall programme provides the opportunity to take part in art and creative projects including the Acton Park Tree Trail http://www.i-m.mx/APPLETREETRAIL/Acton/home.html Sport and outdoor play promoting fitness, health and wellbeing. www.apple-play.com

A.P.P.L.E have reached out target but we have so much more we want to do. We would like to create an outside eating area in our garden. Our NEW kitchen door would lead out into the garden where would have our picnic benches, creating a cafe like area to enjoy the wonderful food cooked by the staff and young people. Keep pledging! Thank you
