The Furzedown Oak Community Project was constituted on 24 October 2013. The Aims are stated as: To work with the community to create a sculpture trail from pieces of a historic oak felled locally.
Since that time several artists have made scuptures either individually, or together with community members. We have led workshops with elderly people (St. James Friendship Group, St.Pauls congregation, Furzedown Project), with young people (Brownies, Youth Club, Eardley School) and the general public (at Sprout Arts, at Furzedown Big Day Out, at street parties and Transition Town Tooting Community Garden and annual Foodival). We have also mounted two local exhibitions (at Sprout Arts) and another further afield at Espacio Gallery (Bethnal Green Road). Three sculptures are in place (Eardley School, TTT Community Garden, St.Pauls Memorial Garden). Four more are in various stages of completion for which we need funding to install.
