Art and the natural world so often forge pathways to a sense of wellbeing and optimism.
In painting a vibrant, ornamental Indian elephant, hidden on a London backstreet, the aim is to elevate that space, providing a momentary place of escapism - a portal with which to travel.
From the home of a lady born in Western India, her gift is this wall - our canvas, where our own playful Pachyderm will greet anyone who visits, with a smile and a floral puff on its trunk. We hope to add a dash of nostalgia, and a free ride back to the dusty streets of Gujarat.
Culturally, the Indian elephant is a symbol of mental strength, earthiness and responsibility. They also bring good luck and prosperity. Spiritually, the Hindu deity Ganesha, the lord of universal intelligence, is revered as the remover of obstacles.
An elephant on Langham Place will make a valuable asset to our community.
