We’re pleased to say that Jane will be speaking at the Shrewsbury Interfaith Forum on Tuesday October 14th at 13.00 at the United Reformed Church on the English Bridge. She’ll be talking about our alcohol awareness school workshops in order to raise awareness and gain local support for this important initiative.
Job Advert: Workshop Leaders and Workshop Assistants Share Shrewsbury are looking for inspiring workshop leaders and workshop assistants to deliver our Amy’s Story workshops in schools across Shropshire. These engaging sessions use a combination of real life stories, honest discussion, and interactive activities to raise awareness of the risks around alcohol. This prevention based approach teaches students the facts about alcohol, and enables them to make informed choices based on what they learn. These workshops are for students in years 6-11 Organisation: Share Shrewsbury Project: Amy’s Story – Alcohol Awareness Workshops for children. Location: Schools and community settings across Shropshire Contract type: Fixed-term contract (sessional hours) Pay: Competitive, dependent on role and experience About Us Share Shrewsbury is a local charity raising awareness about alcohol harm. Our Amy’s Story workshops tell the real-life story of Amy, a much-loved daughter, sister, auntie, and friend, who died aged 37 as a result of alcohol harm. These workshops are personal and powerful. You will be trained by Amy’s mother to deliver them in a way that reflects her daughter’s memory with compassion and honesty. Role 1: Workshop Leaders As a Workshop Leader, you will be: Passionate about reducing alcohol harm Confident in leading Amy’s Story workshops for children in schools and community settings Competent in telling Amy’s story using a combination of PowerPoint slides, guided reflection and discussion Engage the group in dynamic and thought provoking activities Enable students to re-think their relationship with, and gain knowledge about, alcohol Provide information packs for teaching staff, parents and families Collect feedback from the participants, write a workshop report and share reflections with the project team Essential skills and experience: Proven experience working with or supporting children and young people Strong presentation skills and the ability to engage and hold the attention of a group Compassion and sensitivity in sharing a family’s personal story respectfully Confident in leading a group workshop Essential IT skills including PowerPoint Own Transport Organised and self motivated Ability to use initiative and be flexible Evidence of a full DBS certificate will be needed. What we offer: Training: One full day of face to face training will be given by Amy’s mother, including how to present and deliver the workshop content Hours: The hours worked will depend on demand and will fluctuate Fixed-term paid contracts with flexible, sessional hours Role 2: Workshop Assistants As a Workshop Assistant, you will: Passionate about reducing alcohol harm Support the Workshop Leader as needed, in handling equipment, resources, and group activities Welcome participants Assist with presentations and activities when needed and contribute to discussions Help collect feedback and ensure sessions run smoothly. Essential skills and experience Proven experience working with or supporting children and young people Good presentation and communication skills, with confidence to interact with the group Respectful of the sensitive nature of Amy’s story Reliable, approachable, and a good team player What we offer: Training: One full day of face to face training will be given by Amy’s mother, including observing the delivery of the workshop content. Hours: The hours worked will depend on demand and will fluctuate. Fixed-term paid contracts with flexible, sessional hours.
