The idea
The plan is to install a new multi use climbing frame in Ampney Crucis Playground that will provide an interesting challenge for children of different ages and abilities. Access to it is via, a climbing wall, vertical nets, or a sloping net.It contains a wobble bridge, a tunnel and exit is via a slide, Fireman's Pole or for the more adventurous a net climbing cube. It will be considerably bigger than our current climbing frame which is not user friendly and when more than one child is on it at a time, a one way system is naturally created due to the limited entry/exit points. The problem being that due to the current climbing frame design, few children can reach the fireman's pole and therefore either turn round to go back the way they came, causing an impassable obstruction on the monkey bar section or call for help to be lifted down from a height that few adults can easily reach. Additionally new safety surfaces will be installed under the new equipment as well as the current slide.
What we'll deliver
- A brand new multi use climbing frame for children of different ages and abilities.
- Extend the flooring to join with the slide area
- Overlay the whole area with a fresh layer of Tiger Mulch safety surface
Why it's a great idea
The main beneficiaries would be the children of the village and the school but also the parents, grandparents and caregivers as it will provide a safer more relaxing environment for the children that they bring to the park to play in and therefore peace of mind to the adults. Currently some families drive out of the village to other local village playgrounds as they don’t like what is here. The intention is not to create a massive attraction but at the same time it would be good if a village such as Ampney Crucis had a playground that its residents did want to use and didn’t feel that they had to drive elsewhere for.
Since lockdown eased the park has had many more visitors than in previous years as people want to remain local, be together and outdoors so improving the facility will enhance the use for many.
We've chosen a large and diverse playground set that is bound to inspire all children. There's even four seats underneath the towers for having a rest when necessary.
