All Aboard Art Club at The Point has been a brilliant way of bringing Disabled children and young people into The Point to develop their skills, meet new friends and get creative. Children have worked with a wide range of artists and art forms. Amongst other artists, Sile Sibanda explored words and poetry, DJ and Producer Rob Pearson supported young people to create their own digital tracks, Drama practitioners Emma Liversage Smith created a wonderful imaginary world to explore, Dancers, Alice Henry and Charlotte Armitage enabled movement and dance – whatever participants’ levels of ability. Young people have thoroughly enjoyed these sessions, particularly the opportunity to be creative alongside family members and artists within our gallery space. The sessions have been very sensory and responsive to the needs of each child, so all participants have had a positive experience. “It’s amazing how some people think Disabled people can’t do things that other people can do, but really they can.” Young participant Weekly sessions and holiday sessions have been really popular and we have managed to secure some funds to continue a regular Art Club focusing on visual arts every Thursday after school. The current funding only lasts until September, however, so any one off or regular donations would really help us to keep this opportunity going.
