Ainsdale Park- the Picnic Bench Effect hit its fundraising target!5 years ago

To install a wheelchair accessible picnic table in Ainsdale Village Park, providing a space for people to meet,chat,engage in activities.A focus point for the Friends Group to hold nature events.
The nearest Park for Ainsdale residents is four miles away, so this neighbourhood park has become a popular place for the community. From people playing with their children,youngsters playing football, dog walkers and the elderly enjoying the fresh air. This picnic bench would be a fantastic addition, creating an area for families to socialise and enjoy the open air.Have picnics, share coffee, read and relax in lovely surroundings. It will offer a place for older people or less mobile people to sit down and enjoy the nature in the park, meet and chat to others, and feel a sense of social inclusion and belonging. The Friends Group organise bug house and wildflower identification events for local people and uniformed groups. This table will provide an important, much needed base where findings can be recorded, discussed and evaluated. After COVID 19 this table will be important to help us begin to rebuild friendships, and feel part of the community again.

Why it's a great idea:
This table will improve the overall health and well being for people visiting the park and spending more time outdoors connecting with their environment and people in their community. It will reduce social isolation and loneliness and create a sense of belonging. It will create an area where all people, including wheelchair users and children in buggies, can enjoy picnics,sit, chat, do activities, read or just reflect in a lovely environment. It will bring people in the community together who may not normally have stopped to sit together, speak and interact with each other - creating conversation, more than just a passing 'hello'. It will provide an important base where the Friends Group can have a focus to hold nature based events such as bug hotel building and tree or wildflower identification. Children will be able to make investigations, record and discuss their findings and enjoy refreshments at the end of the event.

VolunteerAinsdale Village Park began its development in 2009 and has since been transformed, with the support of Green Sefton from a field which was practically unloved wasteland, unkempt and strewn with litt into the beautiful community park it is today, with landscaping, tree planting, wildflower meadows and some new play equipment.
TheFriends Group are active volunteers who weed, litter pick, plant spring bulbs, collect and scatter wildflower seed, and rake the long grass in the Autumn. Working in partnership with Green Sefton, we also discuss and look for ways to enhance this environment for the community. We have received the Community Green Flag for the past 3 years and been part of the Ainsdale in Bloom Entry for 6 years, branching out as a neighbourhood entry 3 years ago receiving an outstanding award last year. We actively look for funding to improve the park and have so far received funding to replace fencing posts around the car park, the many new trees that can be seen and enjoyed, signage at the entrance to the park, some new play equipment, an information board,and bulbs. We like to involve the community, especially young children, in all our volunteer activities such as bulb planting . It is always hands on deck when we rake the park in the Autumn.Last year we held a very successful bug house building event.
.The Friends Group are developing more community based projects within the park and the picnic bench would create a great focal point for these.
We would like people to enjoy their stay in the park, stay for longer and enhance their overall health and wellbeing. The picnic bench is definitely a way to further encourage this.
