Kent Equine Facilitated Learning is dedicated in transforming the lives of young people through our innovative equine-assisted programs. Our mission is to provide a supportive and nurturing environment where individuals can overcome challenges, build confidence, and achieve mental well-being. To continue and expand this vital work, we are seeking funding to secure a young persons counsellor at a low cost rate.
Based in a rural setting near Dartford in Kent. Kent Equine Facilitated Learning has a six field site where seven horses and four alpacas live. These animals work with the young people who access our facilities through the guidance of the on-site Equine Learning Facilitators. Through the time spent with the animals and facilitators, the young person learns to develop trust in others, understanding of themselves and establish a sense of purpose, belonging and connection.
Established in 2018, our organisation has experienced significant growth and success in recent years, largely due to the dedication and expertise of our team. Currently, our staff includes one full time Equine Learning Facilitator, one ad hoc administrator and one part time animal care professional to deliver our programs and maintain the welfare of our animals. However, we currently have no choice but to refer young people off site to seek counselling when deeper mental health issues arise. This means that the young person then needs to start again to develop a therapeutic relationship and for many who find the outdoor space surrounded by the animals safe, being in an enclosed space can be extremely challenging and difficult for counselling to take place.
Kent Equine Facilitated Learning would like to offer a wrap around service which includes providing counselling in the outdoor space near the horses and alpacas. This is where the young person has already developed a sense of feeling safe and are more receptive to exploring their challenges, process trauma and thusly build resilience, confidence and self esteem. We are seeking additional funding to support this project in making it cost viable for all marginalised young people to access.
Our Equine Facilitated Learning service is well established and highly recognised for providing an outstanding service in supporting the wellbeing of marginalised young people. Recommendations and reviews can be viewed on our google search and social media profiles, such as facebook.
We welcome your support in making this goal achievable.
