The idea
Our new charity Adwick Park Community and Sports Academies has been set up to bring people together. Our dream is to open a community hub in Adwick Park where we will run sports clubs amongst other community-led groups such as a youth clubs and social events.
Without a community building, there is a real possibility that both cricket and football teams playing at Adwick Park will not continue beyond the 2021 season which wil be Adwick Le Street CC centenary season and Adwick Park Rangers JFC 15-year anniversary.
We have been granted full planning permission (December 2019) and we have secured significant funds (approximately 85% of our funding goal) to pay for the building materials and labour. We are appealing to businesses and anyone with a local connection to Adwick Park to help fundraise the remaining amount. By supporting the project you will be leaving a pledge and when we reach our fundraising goal will become a donation to our charity.
Many thanks for your support.
What we'll deliver
- Detailed drawings of the community pavilion
Why it's a great idea
The outline building designs approved on the 17th December 2019 are reasonably sized (c.700m2), but unobtrusive, well-designed building that adds to the quality of the park. The building encompasses changing facilities as well as a relatively large 'function' space that give ideal opportunities such as social and meeting space especially during evenings when the local library is closed.
The existing porta cabin units are not thought to have enough life span left within them to act as a foundation to warrant enhancement/development and major investment. The intended functions of the community pavilion will be used for the following means:
• Meeting venue for organised events
• Training courses for residents
• Changing facilities for participants for sports teams
• Toilet facilities for spectators and participants
• Officiating and scoring
• Cafe and bar facilities
Steps to get it done
- Detailed costs of build ready for tender notice forming plans into detailed layouts
- A tender notice of local contractors will be invited to tender for all works.
- Designs and tender quotations will be cost checked by appointed project manager.
- A pre-start meeting will be arranged involving the contractor and the landowner.
- Work will commence on site by approved contractor.
- Practical completion of works undertaken by contractor.
The community pavilion will:
- Provide the residents of Adwick and the local communities of North Doncaster with a thriving community run facility for sport, leisure, social activities.
- Advance residents health and well-being and promote a stronger sense of community.
- Offer volunteering, work experience and sports coaching opportunities to local people, especially young people.
- Involve community hub participants and residents in running the facility and pursuing ways of sustaining the community pavilion.
