The idea

Our project aims to enhance physical activity and wellbeing by offering free sports activities, such as yoga, in local parks and green spaces.

We aim to create a walking path with educational signs providing information about local flora and fauna, for example the historic tree in Brunswick Square Garden’s, along with tips for physical exercises using natural features, such as benches for tricep dips or chair-based exercise This initiative will encourage walking and light exercise, educate the community about ecology, and raise awareness of green spaces.

We will promote community participation and foster a sense of community by involving volunteers and organising events to keep community engagement. Educational signage will be developed with input from local experts and volunteers, focusing on local ecology and exercise tips.

What we'll deliver

  • 14 free outdoor sessions across a number of local parks in Camden
  • A new walking path
  • An educational trail, with information points on local flora and fauna

Why it's a great idea

Active Green will significantly benefit the community by increasing physical activity through free sports activities and access to fitness equipment in local parks. This will promote outdoor exercise and enhance overall wellbeing. The walking path with educational signs will inform the community about local flora and fauna, raising awareness and appreciation of green spaces. These signs will also offer exercise tips using natural features, encouraging light exercise. The activities will be open to people of all ages, abilities and levels and there will be the option for group or individual exercise depending on each person’s preference. The project will foster greater engagement with local parks, promoting a sense of ownership and pride. By involving volunteers and organising community events, we will build a strong sense of community and ensure the project’s sustainability. We will involve community member's existing expertise and knowledge, to help create this resource for everyone.

Steps to get it done

  • Develop Educational signage and project plan (January 2025 - March 2025))
  • Project launch with first outdoor event (March 2025)
  • Mid-Project Community Engagement Event (April 2025)
  • Project conclusion, project sustainability, celebration and feedback collection (May 2025 - June 2025))

Overall, Active Green will improve mental and physical wellbeing, increase knowledge of local ecology, and create a more active, engaged community.
