Accrington Stanley Football Club is embarking on a significant project that needs your support: the creation of a mural on the Crown pub gable end. This mural, more than just transforming an unused wall, will stand as a powerful tribute to our club's rich history and the enduring spirit of our community. In 1888, the idea was born of a football league incorporating professional clubs to compete. The Football League was officially formed at a meeting held on 17 April 1888 at the Royal Hotel Manchester and Accrington FC was one of the original 12 teams to participate. In 1968, Accrington Stanley relocated to the Crown Ground, their current site, which was named after the pub that was adjacent to it. The mural, with your support, will not only be a work of art, but it will also depict our club's rich history, support our town's heritage, and celebrate our history, creating a sense of place and civic pride.

What we'll deliver:

  • Production of a world class mural
  • Engagement with local football fans
  • Enagagement with the local community
  • Transformation of an unsightly wall into a work of art
  • Celebration of our rich history

Why it's a great idea:

Community Pride: The mural will not only be a point of pride for residents but also a symbol of our shared history and identity, fostering a sense of belonging within the community. Economic Impact: A visually striking mural can attract tourists and visitors to the area, potentially boosting local businesses. Cultural Enrichment: Murals can be a form of public art that enriches the cultural landscape of a community. By celebrating Accrington Stanley through art, the mural can contribute to the area's cultural identity and serve as a conversation starter about the club's heritage. Revitalisation of Public Spaces: Murals have the power to transform otherwise mundane or neglected spaces into vibrant works of art. Community Engagement and Involvement: The process of creating a mural, from planning to execution, can involve local artists, volunteers, and community members. This collaborative effort can foster a sense of unity and collaboration within the community.

Steps to get it done:

  • • Focus groups to come up with what icons are needed on the mural
  • • Research for imagery to reference, i.e. promotion into League Ine as League Two Champions in 2017-18
  • • Liaise with fans
  • • Liaise with local schools, particularly Peel Park primary
  • • Create a conversation with the locals and fans for ideas
  • • Mock up a plan for the mural
  • • Produce the mural

This is a unique opportunity to promote the rich heritage, and chequered history, of football in Accrington and promote all that is good about Accrington Stanley
