The idea
Hygiene poverty is a hidden crisis, the incidence is rising and disproportionately affects more vulnerable people such as low income families, people with disabilities and those from ethnic minorities, teachers describe dramatic impacts on children (SMOL 2025) Sadly we know this is a reality for some of our families in Tamworth
In 2024 we distributed 16,500 kgs of products to 35 Community Partners- 26 schools & nurseries,2 Foodbanks, Social Services and other community organisations. However there is more to do; 10 Tamworth schools don't yet receive any donations, the 3 new Family Hubs are on our waiting list and schools in more deprived wards need more and larger donations.
We need to expand to be able to meet the need. We've started by acquiring premises so we can accept more bulk donations and recruit more volunteers. We expect this to give a focus for more community involvement. We need funds to enable all this to happen
What we'll deliver
- Provide hygiene essentials to 3 more Tamworth Schools
- Provide hygiene essentials to Support the 3 organisations on our waiting list
- Recruit additional volunteers from the Tamworth community
- Kit out and utilise our new premises
- Shine a light on the hidden issue of hygiene poverty
- Strengthen the presence and visibility of The Hygiene Bank
- Increase the volume of donations to 3 of the schools in the most deprived wards
Why it's a great idea
- Help alleviate hygiene poverty among vulnerable groups, including low-income families, disabled individuals, and ethnic minorities in Tamworth.
- Expand support to reach additional schools, Family Hubs, and deprived wards currently without regular donations.
- Increase access to essential hygiene products, promoting dignity and health within the community.
- Encourage greater community engagement through the acquisition of premises, creating a hub for volunteering and local involvement.
- Strengthen collaborations with more Charity Partners and community organisations to broaden impact.
- Support children’s education and social development by ensuring basic hygiene needs are met.
- Reduce the hidden impacts of hygiene poverty on mental and physical wellbeing.
Steps to get it done
- We would add 2 organisations from our waiting by 1/12/25
