The core of our project is to install solar panels on the pavilion which will significantly reduce electricity costs and the club’s carbon footprint. Alongside this we are installing a water harvesting system to capture rainwater to use for maintaining the pitch at North End Lane. Cricket pitches need a lot of water to prepare and we are keen to reduce our carbon footprint and costs. In partnership with Malvern Green Space we will host a community garden on an under used area of the ground Finally we will look to begin the move away from fossil fuel powered equipment with our first electric mower and / or lower emission equipment.

What we'll deliver:

  • Solar panels on the roof of the club
  • A water harvesting system to store and reuse rainwater to water the pitch
  • Electric / lower emission grounds maintenance equipment
  • A new community garden

Why it's a great idea:

Being open for our community every day means that our energy usage and carbon footprint are relatively high. In recent years the club’s energy bills have reached a level that has threatened the viability of the club. Whilst prices have dropped from the levels during the energy crisis the cost of electricity and fuel for grounds maintenance equipment remains very high Like all cricket clubs, we use a large quantity of water to prepare and maintain the cricket pitches. This project will reduce the club’s carbon footprint by X and save Y thousand litres of water every year. At current prices this will reduce the club’s utility bills by £Xk per year which will secure the future of the club, and allow us to continue to invest in facilities for our community. Replacing maintenance machinery will also reduce fuel costs and carbon emissions. The community garden will provide social activities to support local people in growing their own food and getting more active.

Steps to get it done:

  • Installation of water harvesting
  • Installation of solar PV
  • Clearance of garden area
  • Planting of community garden
  • Procurement of new equipment
