Whilst drugs and alcohol do not cause domestic abuse - Studies show, there is a link between domestic abuse and alcohol/drug use, which can make pre-existing violence and abuse more severe. We also know that alcohol and drugs can be used as a coping mechanism by victim/survivors. Between April 2022 and March 2023, 93 of the domestic abuse-related deaths recorded were suspected suicides.
Our original drama highlights that we need to understand how other forms of harm, such as drugs, interlink with domestic abuse & how this can help improve protection and support for survivors
