The idea
The project will bring the eclectic mix of music and creative arts to the community, introducing many to new sights and sounds. The music will cover genres including jazz, soul, funk and rock, expanding Chichester’s reputation beyond art and drama to include musical inspiration. The festival will offer residents and affordable, fun and local venue for a music and food festival in the heart of Chichester. Young people and local talent will be given a space to showcase their talents.
What we'll deliver
- To encourage increased engagement of young people in local music & arts.
- To be THE event for local arts talent.
- To promote the possibility of a permanent music venue in the Chichester area.
Why it's a great idea
The project will work with those young people facing disadvantage through health issues, barriers to participation, self-confidence issues, lack of motivation and low self-esteem. Many young people that will benefit from the Ovation Music Festival find themselves isolated, lacking in confidence, without role models, facing a lack of social skills. Time spent at Ovation music, preparing and taking part in the Summer Festival will address these challenges. Skills learnt and shared are not restricted to musical achievements - personal and social skills are developed in a like-minded environment where young people can learn from and engage with experienced musicians, grow in confidence and competence. For some, who might otherwise feel isolated or shy, it can be a chance to find their tribe and with it their self-assurance. For others it is a chance to learn to work together and collaborate. The Festival will help young people to gain a greater depth of experience and skills.
