To develop a “Men’s Shed” which will be a safe and nurturing place, where men of all ages can come together to work on projects, share skills & share experiences, at their own pace. Membership is open to all, although it is recognised that for the development and continuation of sheds, men usually need a separate ‘male only’ space to meet in order to maximise the benefits a shed can provide. But also be available to all members of the community to use the facilities and equipment to further their own projects at their own pace. To be inclusive and deliver benefits to all residents in the community. To improve the social & community involvement of men, who have time on their hands, as a result of participating in activities which encourage dialogue and positive actions. To develop a place to encourage lifelong learning for personal, cultural and health benefits. To improve and increase community cohesion by participation in activities that promote interdependence.

What we'll deliver:

  • To purchase a 20ft container to use as workshop, storage and social space
  • to buy tools and equipment for members to use to create projects.
  • to make level safe area to enable containers to be secure
  • to buy wood etc and erect a semi-outdoor workshop
  • to buy paint and equipment to paint the outside and inside of the building

Why it's a great idea:

Once the project is up and running we can advertise for members to come and join the Mens Shed. The benefits of membership would include make new friends and renew old friendships of the men and women of the Llansamlet to socialise over a cup of tea and some biscuits, and discuss their interest and the possibility of creating and developing them. Being a community group, the interests would be democratically selected launched, and developed. The Llansamlet Mens Shed would, as a community group, run for the benefit of the members by committee which is elected by the membership, elected annually.

Steps to get it done:

  • Create and sell wooden products to promote social interactions to increase funds
  • To create crafts and cards etc for sale to increase funds
  • To encourage members of the community to join and regularly attend and have a cup of tea, biscuits and have a chat,
  • to utilise the interior space to enable local social groups to hire the space on an hourly time
  • to use available land to create a working allotment and donate to local food banks
  • To donate fresh vegetables to the local food bank
