The idea
This bold project offers a unique opportunity for the children of Linthwaite Clough and Meltham Moor Primary Schools. This term, Year 5 students will work with Opera North's talented musicians and artists to learn and perform eight opera songs. The project will culminate in a fabulous community performance on Thursday 26th June at St. Bart's, Meltham.
The funds raised will give our children exposure to the arts and culture they may not have encountered before. The money will fund workshops, travel, and integrate an arts program into the Year 5 curriculum. Monies raised will help fund the evening performance, allowing the children to showcase their hard work as they sing to their communities alongside professional musicians
Your support will create an inspiring and enriching experience for all. Together, we can celebrate the joy of music and the strength of community, empowering our incredible children to shine brightly and highlight their brilliant talents!
What we'll deliver
- Children from both communities united in singing, proud of their achievements.
- An exceptional performance for the community to enjoy and celebrate alongside the schools.
- An arts program embedded in the curriculum, giving all children in our area an exceptional start in life.
Why it's a great idea
For the children this offers skill development in opera singing, boosts confidence & self-esteem, through public performance, and promotes teamwork as they collaborate on a large-scale project. They will gain cultural enrichment by exploring opera & the experience may inspire lifelong aspirations in the arts.
For the community the project will strengthen bonds by uniting local schools, families, and businesses, fostering pride and collective achievement. It will increase access to the arts, showcases local talent & leave a lasting impact. It will promote diversity and inclusion, creating an environment where all feel valued.
We are seeking sponsorship from local businesses and the local communities to support the children and the schools, fostering a joint purpose and ensuring success.
Overall it is hoped that the project will enhance growth and develop community cohesion, creating a lasting cultural and educational impact within both communities now and in the future.
Steps to get it done
- Learning 8 opera songs
- Completing April workshop
- Completing May workshop
- Securing funding for the workshops and performance
- Securing funding for the coaches
- All of the above for year 2
- All of the above for year 3
Our primary goals are to ensure that the project is sustainable, impactful, and accessible. We aim to create a long-lasting relationship that evolves into an integral part of our curriculum. To achieve this, we are initially seeking funding for the first three years. The positive impact will extend far beyond the children who participate, reaching their families and communities as well. In light of the current cost of living, we are placing a strong emphasis on accessibility, ensuring every child has the chance to perform. Furthermore, we want each performer to have someone in the audience who loves and supports them, proud of their achievement in singing opera at just 10 years old.
