The idea
Kith’n’Kin therapeutic parent groups address the problem of children’s violent and distressing behaviours in the home, by rebuilding connection, developing de-escalation, developing support networks, working on priorities, understanding trauma, and rebuilding a positive authority.
These groups improve family mental health, physical health and wellbeing, as well as building a supportive community of parents who ‘get it’.
Isolation and poor mental health are huge problems for parents of children with challenging behaviour and the problem is widespread. Thankfully now, parents are able to come forward and seek help. We receive hundreds of referrals and need your help to give the vital support needed. Our groups are run by trained therapists and volunteer parent mentors who have attended our groups and now supporting other parents.
Our previous groups have been in person. After a very successful pilot, we are proposing online groups, because many parents were unable to attend in person.
What we'll deliver
- We will run 1 online Non Violent Resistance Parenting Group
- We will give books on Non Violent Resistance Parenting to participants
- We will offer telephone support between sessions to participants
Why it's a great idea
Parents feedback speaks for itself as to how beneficial the course was to them:
“ How blessed I feel to have been invited onto this course. What a change & understanding “
“ The course has given me hope that things will improve"
“ The content of the course is well structured, extremely valuable and was delivered brilliantly”
“ Kith’n’Kin for me has felt like the calm in the storm – the only thing in the whole process with my daughter that I have felt to be 100% helpful and more importantly 100% relevant to our situation. There is not enough of this kind of thing for struggling parents!”
‘Thank you – Difficult topics made safe to discuss’.
‘I learned so much more about, not just my son, but also myself. It was far deeper than I expected. I feel like I’m just at the very start of the journey, the tip of the iceberg, but I’m further than I was.”
Parents notice positive changes to all the family's wellbeing, safety and potential. It takes a village to raise a child.
Steps to get it done
- Having a cohort of parents enrolled for the online group
- Having appointed parent mentors to assist with the group
- Having bought the books to share with parents
