We are fundraising to upgrade the 7th Hanwell Scouting HQ in Trumpers Way in Hanwell.  The current structures built in the 1970s are dilapidated, and have reached end of life.  Extensive renewal work is needed on the exterior and interior of the building to upgrade it. A refurbished building would transform the young people's experience - providing a fresh, bright HQ fit for the 21st century. This will not only make the building safe and secure for the Scouts, Cubs and Beavers for the next 50 years, but will attract additional adult volunteers and enable our HQ to be used as a valuable resource by the wider community. The first stage in the work is to repair the existing walls, so that is the focus of this fundraising campaign. Securing these funds will be a vital early step and provide a springboard to the later stages of the work.

What we'll deliver:

  • Structural repairs to the concrete walls of our Scout HQ

Why it's a great idea:

Fixing the Walls is an essential step to upgrading the 7th Hanwell Scouts HQ. A modernised building will enable Scouting to continue thriving here where it proudly has for over 50 years.  It will allow us to open up more spaces and chip away at the waiting list within Ealing of 350 children looking to join a scouting group. Scouting promotes the development of boys and girls aged 6-14 in achieving their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potentials, as individuals, as responsible citizens and as members of their communities.  7th Hanwell Group members are taught responsibility, leadership skills and practical skills for life from a young age, in a safe and supportive environment. A renewed building will also provide a valuable, accessible resource for others in the community to use, in an area where new housing is being built. This directly supports the Ealing Local Plan's objectives to build local amenities to help communities thrive.

Steps to get it done:

  • Cut back all cracked and defective concrete panels and expose all steels
  • Mechanically clean to remove all surfaces of corrosion and treat with Sika monitor 1010 steel primer
  • Carry out all concrete repairs using Sika 4012 repair mortar
  • Finish to a smooth and level surface
  • Remove and replace all the bolts that hold the concrete panels in place to enable cladding in later phase. .

The Fix the Walls project is a vital part of our overall goal - to provide a venue which attracts more young people, more volunteers and is available for the wider community. Revitalising our Scout HQ includes fixing the walls, a new roof, extending the building, adding attractive timber cladding on the outside, new windows and insulation and fully refitting the inside - including a new kitchen and accessible new toilets. This will ensure the building remains fit for purpose and transform the experience of all who use it. We have already raised nearly £50,000 towards meeting our overall goal and secured planning permission and a 125-year lease. We are running this crowdfunding campaign to raise enough money to Fix the Walls. We will be doing further fundraising and applying for more grants for the remaining work needed to fully upgrade our HQ.
