The idea
After big interest when we did one workshop in Inchicore Sports and Social club during Viking festival last year on voluntary bases we would like to facilitate more events of that kind for community. They are usually quite expensive in professional art studios and not everybody can afford it. We have an idea to share this knowledge and sculpting skills with broader community.
We would aim to deliver 6 differently themed workshops in 2026.
During the workshop kids and adults with no prior experience can make basic useful ceramic projects - like tiles, bowls, flowerpots, soap and butter dishes, jars and mugs. All the works will be fired and glazed within 3 weeks after each workshop. People with already some experience will be challenged with projects adequate to their skills level.
What we'll deliver
- 6 x 4 hours Ceramic Workshops lead by 4 proffessional teachers and artists
- Firing and glazing of all art pieces created
- Purchasing all materials needed to deliver those workshops
- Renting the space for the workshop in Inchicore Sport and Social Club
Why it's a great idea
Ceramics and pottery is an art form that has been practiced for thousands of years.
The act of working with clay requires using our hands in precise movements, that improves motor skills. This can be especially beneficial for individuals who are recovering from physical injuries or are stressed. By shaping clay and repetitive movements we can find peace in the present moment - meditation and... exercise. And power of NOW and exercise are well known to influence our physical and mental health.
Through collaborating on projects, observation, sharing ideas, and giving feedback, we can enhance our skills, learn from one another and relax - it is very enriching experience as well as building a sense of community and self worth in participants. In nowadays world where we can quickly buy dozens of the same manufactured objects the importance of practice our unique hand skills seem to have new and very important value. Plus tea tastes better when drunk from your own unique, hand made mug.
