By Kate Knight
CORPUS brings together a group of artists whose works address concepts related to the body, matter and structure.
Working with painting, installation, sculpture and video, they approach physical, emotional and political structures as a pliable material that can be morphed, reimagined and reinvented. This will be enriched and supported by a comprehensive event programme of talks and workshops delving into these subjects and the respective materials and processes relevant to each practice. These will include: Film editing workshop by Sarah Lang, following a screening of her 7min film “It’s a Beautiful Game” about the history of female football in England. Artist talk and workshop by Latifah A. Stranack, exploring feminism, identity and the female gaze, where participants will then take part in a group workshop to create art using a mixed media technique of collage and drawing to express memory and the body. Workshop by artist Andrew Szczech, demonstrating practical experiences in producing pigments from found objects and producing paints from these.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
15 artists are coming together to share and inform personal experiences of bodily expression and constraint. In a society that is bound upon labelling art gives room and voice to commonalities, as opportunities into otherness. Alongside what will be an exciting and inspiring exhibition, the talks, tours and workshops will challenge what and where body begins, ends and belongs.
